Camera Registry Program Policy
The City of Raleigh and the Raleigh Police Department are dedicated to improving the quality of life of residents of the City of Raleigh. Private security cameras installed throughout the City may sometimes capture footage of emergencies or criminal activity.
Residents and business owners are invited to voluntarily register their video surveillance systems with the Raleigh Police Department as part of the Connect Raleigh Camera Registry Program to aid in crime prevention and investigation.
When a crime occurs, the registered cameras in the vicinity can assist the police in collecting video evidence. This program enables the Raleigh Police Department to contact registrants, requesting them to check their surveillance systems for specific dates and times related to criminal activity. Registration is voluntary, with no associated costs, and it does not grant direct access to your camera. You can delete your registration at any time, and your personal information will be confidential unless a court order mandates disclosure.
The Raleigh Police Department will only contact registrants if a criminal incident occurs near their security camera. If necessary, law enforcement officers may request a copy of relevant video footage to aid in the investigation.
